Coffee has been an important factor in Rwanda's drive towards gender equality. Projects targeting women farmers have helped them gain access to land, seedlings, and markets. This is not only transforming their economic situation but also how they participate in the economy and society. The country's over 400,000 small-scale farmers grow exclusively Arabica Bourbon.
The Mushonyi washing station sits just one kilometer from the shores of Lake Kivu, where over 1,200 smallholder farmers deliver their cherry. RWACOF, Sucafina's Rwanda operation, supports these farmers through training, soil health programs, and rigorous quality control at every stage of post-harvest processing — because they know that what happens after the harvest is just as important as what happens on the farm
