Papua New Guinea Eastern Highlands — Baroida Estate
We roast coffee for you, rooted in Batumi, and we go a long way to find lots like this one. Papua New Guinea is a relative newcomer to specialty coffee, but Baroida Estate has been cultivating these highlands since the 1960s, when Ben Colbran first broke ground. The plantation sits around 1,691 metres above sea level, surrounded by former colonial estates and small family-run farms that together tend close to a million trees.
The name Baroida comes from a local spirit believed to live in a large river rock that has held its ground through every flood in living memory — immovable, patient, quietly magnificent. The coffee lives up to it: Grade A, the highest in PNG's quality system, meaning a full, balanced, clean cup with a rich aroma and bright acidity.
What's in the Cup
-
Tasting notes: Nutty · Pear · Caramel
-
Process: Anaerobic Honey — sealed fermentation with the mucilage left on, building layered sweetness and a syrupy body
-
Roast: Medium — rounded and sweet, with acidity kept bright but gentle
-
Elevation: 1,700–1,850 m · Cup Score: 87.5
How to Brew It
Built for filter. A V60 or Chemex at 1:16 brings the pear and caramel forward with a soft, nutty finish. AeroPress suits it too if you want more body. It will pull as espresso for anyone who likes a sweet, low-acid shot.
Choose Your Grind
-
Whole Beans — freshest flavour, grind just before brewing
-
Ground for Filter (Coarse) — ideal for V60, Chemex, or batch brew
-

-
Ground for Espresso (Fine) — ready for your espresso machine or Moka pot
